Principal secretary, planning and development, Vijoy Prakash said on Friday the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act remains a problem in the state in spite of efforts by government and non-government organisations and education committees.

Addressing a state-level convention on RTE organised by Association for Promotion of Creative Learning (APCL), an NGO, Prakash said: “The Right to Education Act, passed in 2009, cannot be implemented at the grassroots level unless panchayat representatives extend their support. APCL has done good work in this regard by forming right to education committees.”

Vinay Kanth, an educationist, said: “I did not know that APCL workers are so efficient and could empower themselves for implementation of the act. Now, they should concentrate on providing good education to children and ensure that teachers do their work and also seek community support. School management committees would be formed and workers must ensure that those function properly. The government should be pressurised to ensure the fulfilment of criteria such as number of rooms.”
