A man killed his brother and critically injured his sister-in-law with a sharp-edged weapon over a family dispute at Imadpur village in the district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Taskin Alam, a resident of Imadpur. The injured was his wife Rehana Khatun, who is being treated at Sadar hospital at the district headquarters, around 295km northeast of Patna. The body was sent for postmortem at the sadar hospital.

A case of murder has been lodged against Mohammad Saleem and others at Barsoi police station of the district. The accused is absconding. The root cause is said to be a dispute over a small piece of land falling between the doors of the deceased and Saleem.

Barsoi sub-divisional police officer Chandrika Prasad said: “Land was the prime cause of dispute among the brothers but nobody knew the matter would take such a violent turn. Raids are on to nab the accused.”
