Bhagalpur, July 19: The recent Mumbai blasts and the subsequent arrest of suspected members of extremist organisations has turned the heat on foreign citizens overstaying in India.
Bhagalpur police have sounded a red alert for a Pakistani citizen who reportedly overstayed his visa deadline before disappearing from Bhagalpur around seven years ago. Sources said the police spurred into action after the state police headquarters directed the district police to cross-check the list of such suspected elements in their areas following the Kishanganj arrest.
According to the sources, Kajrali police station in Bhagalpur have lodged a second FIR against Pakistani citizen Mohammad Aminuddin who has been underground since long and launched a search operation. All police stations in the district have been alerted, the sources added.
Hailing from Simaria village under Kajrali police station, Aminuddin (41) had migrated to Pakistan 25 years ago.
Intelligence sources said he stayed at Green Park on Nawabkhan Road in Karachi and obtained Pakistani citizenship. He married a girl there and had four children. Seven years later, he divorced his Pakistani wife.
On February 26, 2004, Aminuddin crossed the Bagaha border on a 60-day temporary visa. “He overstayed without raising the suspicion of the Union home and foreign external department,” a source said. Later, following the direction of the ministries, an FIR was lodged against Aminuddin with Kajrali police in 2006.
Investigation revealed that Aminuddin had reportedly married a girl on his comeback and lived with her without any visa. With two child- ren from his Indian wife, he was spotted till 2008, villagers said.
Acting on the orders of Bhagalpur senior superintendent of police Sanjay Singh, Kajrali police have filed a second FIR against him under Section 14 of Foreign Act, 1939. Singh was not available for comment but Kajrali officer-in-charge Baleshwar Yadav said raids were being conducted to track down Aminuddin.
