Patna, May 25: The BJP today announced a nationwide “jail bharo” campaign from Monday to protest against the failures of the UPA government.
The aim of the weeklong agitation, starting May 27, is to press for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
But, in most parts of Bihar, the protests will take place on June 1, owing to the marriage season.
The BJP’s national general secretary, Thawarchand Gehlot, said: “We tried to put across our views on important issues in Parliament. But they were ignored and therefore, we have decided to launch the ‘jail bharo’ campaign to protest against the wrong policies of the UPA government. The Prime Minister should immediately resign and fresh elections should be held.”
Gehlot was accompanied by the party’s state unit president, Mangal Pandey, state vice-president Sanjay Mayukh and other leaders.
