Identity plea in J&K youth death

Patna: The Jammu and Kashmir police have sought the help of their counterparts in Bihar to ascertain the identity of a youth, who was shot dead by the Central Reserve Police Force personnel in the state’s Shopian district on September 7 suspecting him to be a militant.

Sources in the police headquarters said Jammu and Kashmir director general of police Ashok Prasad contacted his Bihar counterpart Abhayanand over phone on Monday and sought the latter’s help in ascertaining the identity of one of the four deceased, who was believed to be a resident of Bihar.

Prasad promised the Bihar police chief to provide him the photograph of the deceased and other details about the unclaimed body.

Police transfer

Patna: The government on Monday transferred two deputy superintendents of police posted in Naxalite-infested Gaya district. Mohammad Ali Ansari, who was posted as town deputy superintendent of police, has been shifted to Neemchak Bathani while his counterpart at Neemchak Bathani Sonu Kumar Rai has been transferred to Gaya town in the same capacity.

Workshop

Ara: Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Ara, organised a district-level provider course on neonatal resuscitation programme the first golden minute on Sunday. Bijay Kumar Singh, the president of Indian Medical Association inaugurated the event.

Osteoporosis

Patna: Lions Club of Patna Favourite organised an awareness camp on osteoporosis at Narayani Hall on Monday. Amulya Singh, a leading orthopaedic surgeon of the city, shared information on the symptoms and remedies of the disease.

LIC meet

Patna: Sushobhan Sarkar, the managing director of LIC of India on Monday urged the team members to spread the reach of the insurance cover all over the country. He was addressing the senior divisional managers’ conference of East Central Zone, covering Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.

Kisan cards

Patna: Animesh Chouhan, the executive director of Central Bank of India, on Monday directed the bank officials to disburse kisan credit cards among deserving villagers. He was speaking in a programme organised by the bank to mark his visit near Marwan village in Muzaffarpur district.

Competition

Patna: State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur recently celebrated Hindi Divas and organised a shabd-gyan competition on the occasion. The bank also awarded prize to three winners at the event.

Fraud arrest

Patna: Prashant Kumar alias Bunty, a resident of Khasmahal under the jurisdiction of Jakkanpur police station in Patna, was arrested on Monday for allegedly duping a couple, Amit Kumar and his wife Sarita Singh, of Rs19 lakh on the pretext of giving them high returns.

Protest

Motihari: Members of students’ wing of JD(U) ransacked properties of MS College and held the vice-chancellor of B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University, Ravi Verma, captive for sometime in protest against the killing of a student in August.
