Contempt plea against Dal leader
Patna: A criminal contempt petition was filed in the Patna High Court on Wednesday against senior JD(U) leader and Rajya Sabha member, Shivanand Tiwari, for allegedly lowering the dignity and majesty of the high court.
The petition was filed by advocate Moushmi Raj through her counsel Pranav Kumar, seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Tiwari who allegedly made a derogatory statement lowering the integrity, dignity and majesty of the justice system.
Kumar contended in his petition that Tiwari had made a statement in a national Hindi daily that since people belonging to feudal and high class have clout over the justice system, the accused persons of massacres like Laxmanpur Bathe continue to get acquitted.
IMA panel nomination
Patna: Dr A.K. Vtsyayan and Dr Harihar Dikshit have been re-nominated as chairman and convener, respectively, of the Indian Medical Association services sub-committee for 2013-14. Indian Medical Association president Dr Rajiv Ranjan re-nominated the duo and on Wednesday. He said under their guidance, the sub-committee would continue to do its good work.

Patna: The Syndicate Bank has slashed interest rates on different loans in the festive season. The bank on Wednesday said it would offer home loans to its existing and new customers at 10.25 per cent interest, irrespective of the loan amount.

Patna: Social worker B.N. Thakur inaugurated Apollo Skin Care on Wednesday. It would offer residents skin-related treatments.
Admission cycle
Patna: The admission process for the January 2014 cycle of Indira Gandhi National Open University has started. Forms can be obtained from the regional centre at Patna, study centres or through post. The forms can also be downloaded from the university website, www.ignou.ac.in.
Play
B>l Patna: Band Master Ibrahim, a play, was staged at Sir GD Patliputra Inter School on Wednesday. The director, Samir Kumar, from Madhya Pradesh Natya Vidyalaya had prepared the actors for the play through a 20-day workshop.
Diara protest
Patna: Members of Diara Bachao, Bharat Bachao staged a protest in Patna on Wednesday in support of their demands, including the setting up of a diara development board. The protesters claimed the state government was not doing anything to improve the condition of the diara areas.
Acquittal
Patna: Judicial magistrate Ghanshyam Singh on Wednesday acquitted six persons, including JD(U) MLA Anant Singh, on the basis of compromise between informant and accused persons in connection with an assault case. The six were accused of assaulting a local journalist and a photojournalist on November 1, 2007. The Sachivalaya police station had filed a chargesheet against the accused on December 12, 2007.
