Derailment hits train schedules

Raxaul: The movement of trains on Raxaul-Sugauli section of the East Central Railway remained suspended for about two hours owing to derailment of a goods train that jumped off the tracks during shunting near Raxaul Junction on Monday afternoon.

A large number of passengers, heading towards Muzaffarpur, remained stranded at Raxaul station. A pair of passenger trains, operating on Raxaul-Muzaffarpur-Raxaul section, also got hit because of the derailment, said R.K. Sinha, station superintendent.

Fire kills minor girl

Bettiah: A 10-year-old girl, Chandani Kumari, was burnt alive in a fire that broke at a village near Sariswa Bazaar in West Champaran district on Monday. The victim was caught in the flames after her hut collapsed soon after catching fire.

Seizure

Bettiah: West Champaran police on Monday seized Rs 27.5 lakh and arrested two persons from an SUV during a routine checking in the district.

Prison term

Patna: Ad-hoc judge Ashok Kumar Singh on Monday sentenced Arun Paswan (28) and Dhramraj Yadav (23), residents of Chandasi in Nalanda, to four years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a robbery case.

Warrants

Patna: In a bid to tighten noose around criminals ahead of the general elections, police have so far executed 1,392 non-bailable warrants.

Campaign team

Patna: The minority cell of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee has set up a 16-member team to undertake campaign work.

Cowshed order

Patna: A division bench of the Patna High Court, headed by justice Navin Sinha, on Monday directed the state government and Patna Municipal Corporation to file their affidavits in regard to removal of “khatals” from PMC area and rehabilitation of those who would be removed.

Patna: Sanjay Bhonsle, the head of the Patna unit of Maharashtra Mandal, met Governor D.Y. Patil and his wife Pushpalata D. Patil and extended greetings for the Maharashtriyan New Year on Monday.

Building affidavit

Patna: A division bench of high court, headed by Justice Navin Sinha and hearing a PIL on Monday, filed by Narendra Mishra, directed chief secretary of Bihar to file an affidavit in connection with rampant construction of illegal buildings in the Patna Municipal Corporation area.
