Patna: The Indian embassy's camp office at Biratnagar in Nepal, around 335km northeast of Patna has been attacked with a bomb.

The place of incident happens to be around 10km from Jogbani in Araria district of Bihar along the Indo-Nepal border. Nepal police have detained two persons in this connection. Though nobody has been injured in the incident, the facility's concrete compound wall has been damaged.

Nepal police has beefed up security at the camp office, while India's Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been put on high alert and sniffer dogs pitched into service.

A source in the Nepal police said an inspection of the site "revealed that a pressure cooker bomb was used in the attack after 8pm on Monday night. The explosion was powerful enough to make a large hole in the thick, brick and concrete wall on the rear side of the campus."

"Two persons have been detained in connection with the blast and they are being interrogated by our senior officials," the source said. Investigators suspect the hand of a splinter Maoist group that had called a strike in Biratnagar on Monday. However, nobody has claimed responsibility for the blast till now. Journalists from Bihar too went to see the explosion and extent of damage.

The two-storied camp office at Biratnagar was opened after the Kosi-Kushaha disaster of 2008 in which the river had breached its embankment and changed course. Its purpose was to coordinate the movement of vehicles, people and relief in the flood-ravaged areas and also help the people of both countries residing in that region.

It has continued operating since then and become an eyesore not only for Maoist splinter groups opposed to India, but also to the Chinese, smugglers and anti-national elements operating in the border areas.
