Patna, June 6: The results of the BEd entrance examination were declared today at Patna Women’s College. Out of more than 3,500 canidates who wrote the entrance test, only 240 have been selected for counselling.

Only 100 of the selected candidates would get admission in the course.

After the results were declared today afternoon, contrasting moods were seen on the college premises. While some jumped in joy, some broke down and some others chose to move out quietly.

Most of the successful students, however, were not ready to start their celebrations immediately. “The counselling would be difficult. A total of 240 students have been selected and only 100 would make it to the course in Patna Women’s College. I am not ready to relax,” a student, who cleared the entrance test, told The Telegraph.

Those candidates who had not cleared the test, understandably, were not in a mood to talk. Some of them said they were “very disappointed” and said they “would try next time and put in extra effort to clear the test”.

Rekha Singh and Anupam Kumari were among the jubilant candidates who had cleared the examination. They were seen jostling in the crowd to see their names on the list on the Patna Women’s College premises on Monday.

Both have graduated in physics from the same college.

Anupam said: “I was not very sure I would clear the examination. Now I am relieved. After all, I am among the 240 lucky ones who have cleared the examination. However, there is still a long way to go.”

The BEd examination is the most sought after course for students who aspire to become teachers. “Because of the increasing popularity of teaching profession, more and more students now want to pursue BEd after completing their graduation,” a Patna Women’s College teacher said.

The BEd degree is compulsory to bag the job of a teacher. There are many colleges in Patna that offer BEd courses — Patna Women’s College, Magadh Mahila College, Patna College, Islamia Teachers’ Training College and Women’s Training College.

The craze of the course has gone up in the past couple of years owing to the ongoing process of appointment of teachers across the state.
