How tweet! Social spat Aamir’s find Cause celeb Dress mess

How tweet!

Guess who’s the gadget girl of Bollywood? It’s none other than Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor’s comely daughter. The tech-savvy actress, who has a string of flops to her credit, was recently named the brand ambassador of the year at the NDTV Good Times Gadget Guru Awards 2011. And why not? Her twitter account is abuzz with activity and she is known to be closer to her iPad and iPod than she is to her co-actors. So okay, she is all plugged in. And she has several brand endorsements under her belt too. Then maybe it’s time now to turn her attention to polishing up her acting prowess. Or she’ll end up being more active in cyberspace than on celluloid. Tut tut. Or should we say, tweet tweet?

Social spat

Wonder what irate stars did when there were no social media to vent their ire on. Kannada actress Ramya had a very public spat with film producer A Ganesh, which was played out on Twitter and Facebook and for good measure, in old- fashioned press conferences as well. Ramya alleged that she had loaned Ganesh money which he did not return. Ganesh in turn accused her of skipping a promotional event of his film to buy furniture for her house! He took the matter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce which slapped a one year acting ban on Ramya. Not one to take it lying down, the actress went on the warpath on Twitter. And the upshot? Well, it’s a bit of an anti-climax really. Last heard, both parties had kissed and made up. And presumably peace now reigns on Ramya’s social media accounts.

Aamir’s find

Remember Manjari Phadnis, the attractive girl who played the slightly weird Meghna opposite Imran Khan in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na? Well, we hear that actress so impressed Aamir Khan, who produced the film, that he has recommended her for an important role. She is to play the lead in Satyajit Bhatkal’s debut film Zokkomon. What’s interesting is that in the film Phadnis will act as a mentor and guide to an orphaned boy, who happens to be played by Darsheel Safary, of Taare Zameen Par fame. Now isn’t that a tad similar to what Mr Perfectionist Khan did in the same film? Certainly speaks volumes for his confidence in her abilities.

Cause celeb

Move over Aamir Khan. It’s the sexy Priyanka Chopra who may soon replace the actor with a social conscience as Indian tourism’s brand ambassador. Of course, Chopra is no stranger to worthy causes. She has been the “green ambassador” for the environment ministry before this. Invited to be the guest of honour at an awards ceremony to be hosted by the ministry of tourism tomorrow, the rumour is that Ms Piggy Chops will be the next one to press home the message of “atithi devabhava (guest is god)”. But wasn’t there an incident recently where the spirited actress got into a near fistfight with a fellow traveller on a flight? Not good publicity for the travel industry, no, but you can bet Ms Chopra will curb her basic instincts if she does become the face of Indian tourism.

Dress mess

While the world and its aunt would give an arm and a leg to be invited to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, a dancer-choreographer duo from Bollywood has bagged an invite to the event. Sandip Soparrkar and Jesse Randhawa are to perform a mix of waltz and Bollywood numbers at the wedding reception of the royal couple in Buckingham Palace. But there’s a snag. Soparrkar and Randhawa, who are a husband-wife team, are yet to decide on what they will wear to the prestigious event. “We are thinking of wearing an attire suitable for the waltz but in its making, I want an Indian touch. The Indian flavour would make the mix of the two dance forms look good,” says Soparrkar. The theme of the dance would be, what else, love. Make that royal, and, we hope, everlasting, love.
