Litterateur Suchitra Bhattacharya died at her Dhakuria house on Tuesday night. She was 65.

Bhattacharya had started writing from an early age and been steadily gaining popularity since the 1990s. Among her famous works are Kancher Deoal, Dahan, Hemanter Pakhi, Neel Ghurni and Aleek Sukh. Her writings focussed on urban middle class and women.

Over the last few years, she had been vocal on several political and social issues.
