Siliguri, May 25: Cyclone Aila may have swept away with it the sweltering heat, but only for a few hours. However, for Siliguri, the coolest address now is the Savin Kingdom. Tomorrow, the Water Park there will be opened to the people.
Spread over three acres, the park has cool rides for everybody, from children and youths to old men. One can be playful at a designated spot, slide into water from a height of 90 feet or simply lie on recliners, enjoying the waves.
“Our attempt is to give complete entertainment to people of all age groups, particularly in the summer. They can enjoy in the park throughout the day by taking rides and relishing the delicacies at our food court,” said Ashish Saharia, the CEO of Savin World Resorts Pvt. Ltd, which runs the park, in association with the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority.
At present, there are 15 rides available in the amusement park, ranging from striking cars to monorails to flying saucer.
After opening in September 2007, Savin Kingdom, located at Dagapur near here, has been witnessing a footfall of around 2,000 people everyday. The water park is the latest addition which is likely to pull an equal number of visitors everyday and more on weekends, he added.
In the park, the wave pool is unique with waves lapping on the shore, forming a fantastic ambience of a seaside, though the water is only four-and-a-half feet at the deepest point.
Among other rides is Kids Play Station, where a conglomeration of small slides, a giant bucket that continuously gets filled with water and topples at regular intervals, creating an artificial waterfall, and a number of shower hobs are placed.
“Parents need not worry as the water is only two-and-a-half feet deep here,” said A.K. Sengupta, the general manager (projects).
The CEO said visitors could hire swimming trunks, towels and gears like goggles. There are also changing rooms and lockers where valuables can be kept.
“We will be using 10 lakh litres of water in the park at a time. The water would be filtered and changed in every three hour,” he added. “In every pool and ride, there would be trained lifeguards and trainers to help the visitors.”
With the water park opening its doors tomorrow, the company has a number of other projects on anvil at the same place. The rates, authorities said, would be Rs 120 for children and Rs 150 for adults. “It is a one time entry fee. They can enter at 11am when we open the park and stay till 7pm,” said an official.
