A 31-year-old private tutor was arrested in his Bally home on Thursday night for allegedly sending obscene text messages to a painter.
Police said Rajib Chowdhury had seen the painter’s works at an exhibition in the city some months ago and had since been sending her text messages. The painter had lodged a police complaint against him four days ago.
Chowdhury was booked for insulting the modesty of a woman. He was granted bail by an Alipore court on Friday.
In another incident, an executive of a private firm was arrested for hacking into the email account of a former colleague and sending lewd messages to her contacts from it.
Ayan Basistha, a 28-year-old Nagerbazar resident, had found out the woman’s email address while working with her more than a year back. The woman realised about a month back that someone else was accessing her email account and lodged a police complaint. The CID took over the probe and tracked down Basistha using computer IP addresses.
