The priest had been in India from 1949 to 1977. He had taught at St. Xavier’s College in Calcutta and St. Xavier’s School in Basanti, in the Sunderbans.Some of Detienne’s writings — his Bengali prose had earned him widespread admiration — are Diary-r chhenra pata (Torn pages of diary), Purono sei diner katha (Tales of those old days) and Aatpourey smriti (Everyday memories), all of which had appeared in Desh.
