A slice of Orissa
Beginning today, the department of culture and information & public relations, Government of Orissa is hosting a three-day cultural festival in association with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC). Today’s inaugural programme will witness a reception of chief guests and other invitees with a performance of drums and folk dances. This will be followed by an Odissi dance recital presented by Madhubrata Satpathy. Also, folk dances of western Orissa and Chaiti Ghoda, a folk dance of the fisherfolk of the state. Tomorrow’s programme features Utkal Banga Sanskrutika Aikya, a seminar that aims to trace the origins of connections between Oriya and Bengali cultures. The Orissa Sahitya Akademi will host a book exhibition on this occasion. To be followed by Bande Utkal Janani — a creative dance item, an animal mask dance ,and Gotipua and Chhau folk dance. On the concluding day, Satabdira Kalakar, Bhubaneswar will stage the Oriya play, Biplabi Krutibas. The festival also includes a display of Orissa’s handicraft and handloom products, information about its tourist spots, as well as a sumptuous spread of its cuisine.
