Figurative musings
In evoking the diversity of thoughts, ideas and poetics, the ongoing exhibition of the recent artworks of Jeram Patel, belongs to a time when abstract art had become a dominant medium of artistic expression in the East as well as the West. A Baroda-based artist, he is one among the few who turned around the Indian art scene and formulated a new visual identity and method of abstraction in the late 1950s and 1960s. This major collection of his works showcases sculpture in steel and burnt wood apart from works on canvas. For the first time in Calcutta, art lovers will be provided an opportunity to explore the painter-sculptor’s mastery over diverse mediums, thereby opening a window onto the artist’s creative process. Hosted by The Harrington Street Arts Centre and Asit Shah of Art Home, Vadodara, Gujarat, along with Ina Puri.
