Siliguri, March 30: Sandip Ahmed alias Sekhar Das, an alleged CPI (Maoist) member, was arrested by Karandhigi police in North Dinajpur late last night.
Ahmed has been booked for waging war and criminal conspiracy against the state. He was wanted in a case registered with Matigara police.
A resident of Shantipara at Bidhannagar in the Phansidewa police station area, Ahmed was going to Malda by a private bus when the Karandhigi police arrested him and handed him over to the Matigara police.
?We have been searching for him since last September after a Maoist arrested from Pradhanagar revealed his name,? police said.
He was produced before the court of subdivisional judicial magistrate Sovan Mukherjee, who remanded him in police custody till April 7.
On March 21, Panjab Rao Chayan, Animesh Chakraborty of Malda and Pradip Chatterjee of Calcutta were held on the same charge from Khoribari.
