Calcutta, Nov. 5: Five more police officers were served showcause notices by the state government today for dereliction of duty in connection with Sunday’s Salboni blast.

Two police officers were served notices yesterday. An inspector and two constables were suspended on Monday.

S.M.H. Mirza, additional superintendent of police, Tamluk, Amitava Barma, sub-divisional police officer of Egra, Sailen Biswas, officer-in-charge of Salboni police station, Dibyendu Sarkar, circle inspector, Salboni, and Asit Samanta, district intelligence officer (anti-sabotage check), were issued the notices today.

According to district police sources, Sarkar had been on medical leave and had joined work on the day of the blast.

Inspector-general of police (law and order) Raj Kanojia said: “The five have been asked to explain their role in supervising security operations. If they fail to offer a satisfactory explanation, the government can always take action against them, as done in the case of a police inspector and two constables earlier.”

The families of those arrested in connection with the blast yesterday demonstrated in front of Lalgarh police station demanding justice today.
