Rituparna Sengupta

A biker hit the car in which Tolly star Rituparna Sengupta and her husband Sanjay Chakrabarty were travelling on Monday evening and beat him up when he protested.

The 19-year-old, identified as Arnab Biswas, was moving down a one-way lane in the wrong direction when he collided with Rituparna’s Toyota Corolla as it turned into Lake Gardens from Prince Anwar Shah Road. The star’s driver was at the wheel.

“The guy dashed against our car. When Sanjay asked him why he was riding the wrong way, he hurled abuses and said he had every right to take any road he wanted. He then again rammed our car with his bike, this time deliberately. When Sanjay stepped out of the car, the guy started beating him up and tore his T-shirt,” Rituparna told Metro.

“When I stepped out of the car, the guy abused me too, saying that just because I was a celebrity, I could not get away with anything. The traffic police intervened at this point. In the melee, Sanjay lost his iPhone,” added Rituparna.

A complaint was lodged by the couple with Lake police station.

“The accused, a Jadavpur resident, has been arrested. A case has been started for rash and negligent driving, grievous hurt and damage of property,” said Debabrata Das, deputy commissioner (south east division).

Rituparna and Sanjay were driving back to their Lake Gardens home from Tollygunge Club, where the actress was shooting for actor-turned-director Tota Roy Chowdhury’s film Villain.

The one-way lane, near the Lord’s crossing, leads to the actress’s home.
