
There were a plethora of functions remembering the bards, Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam in Howrah last week. A Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya was organised by Nalanda Sanskriti, a club that focuses on welfare of children. The programme was held at the municipality ground in Kadamtala on June 7. “There was Rabindrasangeet, Nazrul-geeti, recitation and srutinatak, all performed by the children of the club,” said Amit Maity of the club.
A special recitation session was organised by Kabitika, a recitation group run by Chandrima Maity. Her students recited parts from the Gitanjali.
On this occasion, the club also felicitated local students who fared well in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary exams. They were given prizes by the local councillor Mousumi Ghosh in memory of her father Achin Ray. National award winner homeopath, Dr Tanmay Das was also felicitated.
Another local club, Bantra B Park Club, organised Rabindra-Nazrul Janma Jayanti Sandhya on June 7 between 6 and 10 pm. The programme was held on Bellilious Road with 600 in the audience. About 60 participants put up songs, dances. The principal of Narasingha Dutta College, Rajkumar Ganguly, was the guest of honour.
