Jalpaiguri, Jan. 9: The Guwahati-bound Rajdhani Express was detained near Dhupguri for two hours after it rammed into a truck at an unmanned level crossing near College More, killing one person and injuring three.

?The train was hurtling towards the level crossing but the truck driver did not realise that. Even before I could react, I heard the ear-splitting noise of the train slamming into the vehicle. The truck was flung several metres by the impact. One of the persons in the truck was dead. The other three were other injured,? said Dinesh Roy, an eyewitness.

The injured have been admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital.

?The accident would have been far worse if the train had jumped the track. Thankfully, the driver stopped the train. Engineers to inspect the tracks at the site of the accident,? said T.N. Bhattacharya, the public relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railway.
