Siliguri, Sept. 8: AirTel today announced that it would launch its services here and in all other important towns of West Bengal circle (which includes Sikkim but excludes Calcutta) before the pujas.
Though AirTel?s chief executive officer (CEO), eastern region, Deepak Gulati did not specify the date of the launch, he said it would definitely be a puja gift for local people.
?We have not decided on the exact date, but will definitely launch the services anytime before the pujas,? Gulati said at a news conference.
He was here, along with Deepak Jolly, director, corporate communications, Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited, to make some last-minute preparations.
?The work of setting up the required infrastructure is over and we have also opened three AirTel relationship centres in Siliguri. We have tested the network, but will not hurry the final launch. This is because we are aware that people expect a lot from us and we do not want to disappoint them,? Gulati said.
Though the private telecom major will start operations in all major towns of the West Bengal circle at the same time, Siliguri will be the venue for the formal launch.
However, no announcements were made about the tariff structure.
Currently, the residents of the business hub have to choose between BSNL and Reliance for cell phone services.
