Darjeeling, March 7: The Bharatiya Gorkha Janshakti (BGJ) has decided to appeal to GNLF president Subash Ghisingh to contest the coming general election.
The party, while observing its sixth foundation day today, stated that it would urge the Gorkha National Liberation Front leader to field his own candidates rather than boycott the election.
The Bharatiya Gorkha Janshakti, which is currently in limbo, however, refused to commit its support to the GNLF. “We have decided to appeal to Ghisingh so that he fields his candidates taking into consideration the sentiment of the hill people,” said C.R. Rai, the president of the BGJ. “We have not yet decided whether we will join the PDF or not. Currently, we have adopted a wait-and-watch- policy.”
The BGJ has also decided to appeal to all political parties to submit a memorandum jointly to Delimitation Commission for the inclusion of Mal Mateli and Nagarkatta areas of Jalpaiguri into the Darjeeling parliamentary constituency instead of Islampur and Chopra.
