There, they found the carcass of a female barking deer and recovered some bows and arrows from the spot.

Suspecting it to be a case of poaching, they initiated a probe and also started searching for those involved in the incident.

In due course, they
gathered information about the poachers and raided
Purba Salbari village last night.

Budhan Kujur and Mandal Beka, both residents of the village, were arrested. Also some bows and arrows were seized from their possession.

“The deer’s carcass has been sent to the veterinary unit for post-mortem. Samples will be sent to the Zoological Survey of India for necessary identification,” said a
forester.

On Friday, the duo was produced at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court here.

“They were involved in poaching a deer. The court heard the case and has sent them in judicial custody for 14 days,” said Madan
Gopal Sarkar, the public prosecutor.
