The mother of the eight-year-old boy who was killed in the Nagerbazar blast was indirectly told on Thursday that her son was no more, her husband said.

Sita Ghosh and her son Bibhas were walking past the storeroom of a sweet shop in Nagerbazar’s Kazipara when a bomb went off at 9.10am on Tuesday. While Bibhas died after crying “O ma go” for minutes while being taken to hospital, Sita suffered 50 per cent burns.

Swathed in bandages, she is being treated at SSKM Hospital.

Sita’s husband Janmejoy said he had tried to avoid answering her question about Bibhas but she persisted.

“She tried to get up and told me that she would go find Bibhas if I refused to answer her query. She was in immense pain but tried to get up multiple times. I could not see her like that and I had to tell her the truth. I told her he was in a place where nothing will harm him,” Janmejoy told Metro.

Sita slumped back on her bed after hearing this and broke down.

The explosion that ripped through Kazipara left several people injured.

Ajit Halder, one of the injured, is on ventilator at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

“The doctors have no clue when he is going to recover. They said he needed the ventilator to breathe,” said sister Jamuna Mondal, who has been camping outside the hospital since Tuesday.

Shuvam Dey, who ekes out a living selling incense sticks door to door, is fighting for his life at the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences with metal pieces and stone chips lodged in his brain. Cousin Priyanka is constantly by his side.

“Doctors have said he needed surgery to remove the pieces but the condition is not stable enough for the procedure,” Priyanka said.

“He is in the critical care unit and doctors said they are unsure whether he will make a full recovery. He has elderly parents at home and is the only earning member of the family.”

Kazipara resident Naba Kumar Das is admitted to RG Kar hospital with burns. He is the only earning member of his family, too.
