A homemaker in her late 20s, in the city to oversee her mother’s treatment in a state-run hospital, was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law in a Kalighat guest house on Saturday.The accused is on the run.

The woman had stayed back in the city with her brother-in-law after her husband and relatives returned home to Jangipur in Hooghly.

After spending two days on the hospital premises, the woman and her brother-in-law checked into the guest house on Saturday afternoon to freshen up.

“The woman alleged that her brother-in-law raped her in the guest house. She returned to the hospital alone on Saturday evening and alerted officers at the police outpost in the compound,” said a cop.

Medical tests were conducted on her on Saturday night. The police raided the brother-in-law’s Jangipur house but could not find him.
