Gangtok, Nov. 30: The four-day Gangtok Winter Festival will begin here from December 8.

The state tourism department announced the date today and said the festival will be held at two locations: the Sukhani House complex and the area located just in front of the department?s office on M. G. Marg.

A communiqu? from the department?s deputy secretary Siphora G. Tragain said the fest aims at promoting the lean winter season by giving tourists and residents a taste of nature, culture and adventure.

Rafting on the Teesta, rock climbing at Baluakhani, mountain biking and trekking are some of the adventure activities that have been chalked out for the fest. Besides, a food festival and various cultural programmes have also been lined up.

An exhibition and sale of ethnic crafts, a flower show, and an archery competition will be the other highlights of the festival.

The Mangan music festival in North Sikkim, also organised by the tourism department, will follow the Gangtok fest.
