A Trinamul leader based in Bhatpara of Balurghat block in North Dinajpur was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment by a local court on Friday for drug smuggling.

Lagin Das is a former panchayat pradhan. Narayan Yadav, another person arrested in connection with the case, has also been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on both of them, failing which they will have to spend two more years in jail, sources said.
