Siliguri, Jan. 23: Darjeeling district magistrate Puneet Yadav has written to the secretary of the managing committee of Siliguri Hindi High School, B.P. Dalmiya, asking him not to overcharge students for the 2015-2016 session that began on January 2.

The letter issued yesterday read: 'This is to inform you that a message has been received from the school education department that no fee other than that allowed by the government can be charged from the students. This is for your information and necessary action'.

The development comes after students of the school blocked Jalpai More on Burdwan Road on Wednesday protesting high fees stipulated by the school managing committee.

The body had fixed Rs 4,800 as the annual fee for new admissions to Classes V and VI, Rs 1,600 for students of Classes VI and VII and Rs 2,020 for Classes IX and X. Pran Gobinda Sarkar, district inspector of schools (secondary), Siliguri, on January 7 had asked the school to take Rs 240 for Classes V to X, like state-aided schools.

In another development, yesterday, Dalmiya issued termination notices to two contract teachers who taught for 10-odd years. The managing committee has requested a recall.
