A youth in his late 20s was shot at on a busy APC Road near the Rajabazar crossing around noon on Thursday.

Mohammad Kallu, who supplies building material, had a close shave as the bullet hit the road and then his left foot. In his statement to police, Kallu has accused four men of being involved in the attack, including an alleged business rival, identified as Mohammad Pappu.

Joint police commissioner (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said Kallu had mentioned in his statement that one of Pappu’s associates had turned up at his Chhatubabu Lane home in the Narkeldanga area and asked him to come to a spot in the locality.

“On reaching there, Kallu saw Pappu and a few of his aides. They exchanged a few words and suddenly Pappu, a resident of Narkeldanga, took out a firearm and pulled the trigger,” said an officer.

Sensing trouble, Kallu had grabbed Pappu’s hand and the bullet hit the road first before striking his leg. Kallu has been admitted to NRS hospital.
