The CPM will take out a march to the headquarters of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation on August 26 to protest the alleged failure of the Trinamul Congress-run civic board to fulfil election promises.

“Trinamul leaders had given a lot of promises when they had campaigned for the SMC polls. But after Trinamul took power, the party has not taken up any major initiative to address problems in drinking water supply, sewerage system and traffic management. That is why we will organise a march,” CPM leader Asok Bhattacharya, a former Siliguri mayor, told a news conference on Tuesday. Darjeeling district CPM secretary Saman Pathak was with Bhattacharya.

On September 13, the CPM will hold demonstrations in front of all four block development offices in the Siliguri subdivision to protest alleged corruption linked to Trinamul leaders and a section of state government officials.

Pathak said the party would also launch the “Reach to Unreached,” a door-to-door campaign, in the coming months. “We will tell people from different walks of life how they are suffering because of central and state governments,” he said.
