Raiganj, Jan. 22: The block development officer (BDO) here, Sangdem Dukpa, has launched a door-to-door survey at the Kasba police lines to check out the credentials of enlisted voters.
The administrative step comes in the wake of a complaint alleging that 35 per cent of the enlisted voters are either dead or do not reside there.
Congress gram panchayat pradhan Manasi Sur who has lodged the complaint, said 334 policemen had been transferred from the police lines in the past three years, but this does not reflect on the list of 1,144 voters published recently.
?The names of the policemen and their families must have been enrolled on the voters? list of the area where they have been transferred. The list also contains the names of 16 people who are dead,? she said.
?There are 350 false voters in the barracks and all of them belong to the CPM-dominated Non-gazetted Police Karmachari Samiti,? she alleged.
Inquiries at the barracks this morning revealed that policemen like, Rathram Oraon, Harimohan Oraon, Ananda Singh and many others, whose names still feature on the list, had been transferred from the area three years ago. Other names on the list like Joginder Jamadar, Rekha Jha and Kalu Thakur belonged to people who were already dead. Nachor Murmu and her husband Hopna Murmu?s names feature twice on the list with two different ages.
Dukpa said: ?The complaint is a genuine one and I am personally going from door to door to check out the veracity of the list.?
CPM Raiganj local committee secretary Nilkamal Saha said: ?Our party is in favour of purging the voters? list of false voters but the Congress?s charge is politically motivated.?
