April 25: Actor-guitarist Ronodeep Bose, who had suffered head and other trauma injuries in a motorbike crash in New Alipore early on March 31, has been taken off ventilator.

Bose, grandson of thespian Soumitra Chatterjee, is being treated at the Institute of Neurosciences at the Mullickbazar-Park Street crossing.

A bulletin issued by the hospital today said: "He is now out of ventilation but remains in the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU).... Although there are a few signs of neurological improvement, he remains unconscious."

Bose was put on ventilator after brain surgery on March 31. Hospital officials said the actor today underwent surgery for his forearm fracture and his post-operative condition was "satisfactory".

Surgeon Dipendra Narayan Pradhan and his team had on April 1 created an outlet to ease the pressure on the brain.

About a week later, a tracheostomy - an incision made in the windpipe to relieve an obstacle to breathing - was conducted.

An official said Bose's coma score had improved.
