The series Psycho, streaming now on Darshoo OTT, is painted in shades of mystery. Samdarshi (Kinjal Nanda) appears to be an ordinary, quiet man living in a rented house and working at a private office. But deep inside, he carries the shadow of a terrifying past. A childhood trauma still haunts him. That horrific night became an inseparable scar on his life, blurring the boundary between reality and imagination. As the story unfolds, Samdarshi’s world turns into a labyrinth of nightmares, hallucinations, and paranoia. His paintings are not just art — they are silent confessions. Every portrait hides a secret. Slowly, it is revealed that his obsession with capturing “immortality” on canvas is created at the cost of death in reality.

“As an independent filmmaker, directing Psycho was both thrilling and challenging. The greatest challenge was guiding the actors to portray such layered and complex characters with restraint and authenticity. To me, Psycho is an exploration of the fragile and unsettling aspects of human behaviour — the sides we often choose to look away from. One of the strongest aspects of Psycho is its ensemble cast. Working with Koneenica Banerjee, Kinjal Nanda, Basabdatta Chatterjee, and Pradip Bhattacharya was an enriching experience. Each of them brought honesty and emotional depth to their characters —something that was absolutely essential for a psychological thriller. Kinjal Nanda was cast in the lead because of his ability to internalise complex emotions and balance vulnerability with intensity. Koneenica, Basabdatta, and Pradip Bhattacharya infused their roles with subtlety and sensitivity, making every scene memorable,” said director Bappa.

“I found both my character and the story deeply intriguing. The role came with many nuanced layers, and I had to work hard to get under the proverbial skin of the character. Although I am a medical practitioner, I didn’t really have an advantage in portraying this part, since I hadn’t explored dark psychology in depth before. To align with the flow of the series, I read extensively on the subject and closely observed various aspects of human behaviour. This helped me to grasp the complexities of the mind, and I sincerely hope I’ve been able to do justice to the role,” said Kinjal.

“When I shot for this series, I found the concept to be both intense and intriguing. Bappa, our director, was very clear about his expectations from us as actors, and our cinematographer did a wonderful job of visualising the narrative. Though we filmed under certain constraints and in real locations, the experience was truly rewarding,” said Koneenica.

“With the launch of this series, all of us have been receiving a lot of appreciation for our work. The experience of working with our director, Bappa and Roop Production was truly fulfilling. I had worked with Bappa earlier. We share a comfort level where I understand exactly how much effort it takes to align with his vision. He is a very meticulous and thorough director who shoots with great precision and care. I agreed to be a part of the series right after hearing the story once — I really liked the script. Both Koneenica Banerjee and Kinjal Nanda are immensely talented performers,” said Basabdatta.
