Literature and films have always associated the rainy season with love and passion, having immortalised many a monsoon romance through their characters and stories. With Bengal enjoying a rollicking monsoon this year, Kachakachi tui ami, the new love song which captures the mood of an intense love affair, couldn’t have come at a better time than the present.
Dropped by Saregama Bengali, the music video of Kachakachi tui ami, directed by Arup and Debanjan, is an absolute treat to the senses. Shot in the vibrant and spectacular locales of Thailand’s beaches off the Phang Nga Bay, it depicts a pair of young lovers on a romantic holiday. Featuring actors Om and Susmita Chatterjee as the lovers, the song is an expression of their love, and of the sheer joy and ecstasy they experience in each other’s company. Its lyrics simply and frankly articulate the lovers’ passion and attraction for each other, with the accompanying visuals reinforcing their physical intimacy.
Susmita looks drop-dead gorgeous in a series of stunning beachwear, which she carries with ease and elan, while her co-star Om gives off a macho image with his well-toned body dressed in casual, vacation-appropriate attire that is colour-coordinated with Susmita’s outfits. The pair complement each other well on screen and look just perfect as a couple deeply in love, making the most of their romantic getaway.
Besides the magnificent, picturesque backgrounds of the beaches, some fantastic choreography also adds to the visual and sensory impact of the lively romantic number. Aditi Singh Sharma, the voice behind Susmita’s character, delivers in the song a bilingual performance in English and Bengali, impressing as much with her dreamy, melodious vocals and perfect diction in both languages, as with her ability to beautifully emote and dramatise the lyrics with her voice modulations. The male vocals by singer Debanjan have a bold and confident quality, which completely matches the body language of Om. Deep, powerful and versatile in his vocal range, Debanjan gives the song an extraordinary depth and intensity, at the same time adding to the amorous narrative.
