The trailer of the upcoming psychological thriller Bahurup promises a gripping and spine-chilling experience. The film unfolds against the backdrop of a series of bloody murders haunting the city. Each crime scene leaves behind a disturbing clue, sheets of Bengali poetry written on paper, eerily surrounded by blood.
What makes the trailer even more unsettling is that it doesn’t hide the killer. Instead, it introduces him upfront, the mysterious figure who transforms into different terrifying characters and costumes before committing his gruesome acts. He calls himself Charbak, played by Soham Chakraborty. Dressed at times as a woman, sometimes as a transgender, and even as a frightening itinerant folk artiste, Soham looks completely unrecognisable and eerily convincing in each of these avatars. But the twist? Charbak is also Abhimanyu Banerjee, a celebrated Bengali movie star.
Abhimanyu’s personal life adds another layer of intrigue, as he normally makes films and shares a romantic connection with Idhika Paul’s character. On the surface, she appears to be a simple girl, but the trailer hints at her darker side, as she is seen dabbling in eerie voodoo rituals with Charbak. This raises the central question: is Charbak merely Abhimanyu’s twisted alter ego, is he under the influence of the mysterious woman, or is he simply a killer driven by his own thrill for murder?
The trailer launch was held at Kitchen Q, Beleghata, where the team of Bahurup — Soham Chakraborty, Idhika Paul, Debleena Dutt and director Aakash Malakar — unveiled their dark and fascinating vision. With its mix of mystery and psychological twists, Bahurup already has fans guessing what truly lies beneath the masks. The film hits theatres on August 29.
