Beautiful, warm and inviting, with each corner telling a story. That sums up the mood at the Gauri Khan Designs Experience Centre in New Delhi. It showcases Gauri’s complete furniture line and has customisable options too. The experience centre has also collaborated with Nature Morte, an art gallery, for a curation of art. In a chat with t2, Gauri talks about how the experience centre came to be, how spaces are changing, and her forever favourites when it comes to home.

How did the idea for the new Delhi experience centre come about?

The idea stemmed from a desire to bring Gauri Khan Designs to Delhi in a way that feels personal, immersive, and inspiring. This isn’t just a space to browse interiors, it’s meant to feel like someone’s home, layered with warmth, character, and thoughtful design choices. Every element, from the textures to the lighting, has been curated to evoke a sense of comfort and sophistication. It’s a space that invites you to pause, experience, and connect with design in an intuitive and emotional way.

How is the Delhi experience centre different from your Mumbai space?

Unlike our Mumbai store, the Delhi location is an experience centre that leans into intimacy and sophistication. It’s not about volume, it’s about curation. It feels like stepping into a living mood board, where every texture, material, and detail has been chosen with intention.

What’s at the core of your design philosophy?

Timelessness. I believe in design that doesn’t demand attention but quietly remains relevant. It’s all about balance between function and warmth, luxury and comfort.

Can you take us on a virtual walk-through of the space?

You enter and are instantly immersed in the Gauri Khan Designs identity, where tactile textures meet sculptural lighting, rich wood tones balance soft textiles, and subtle brass accents add just the right amount of glamour. The space has been designed to flow like a thoughtfully curated home, with distinct zones that feel lived-in and emotionally resonant. From elegant living rooms and cosy lounges to intimate bedrooms and contemplative study corners, every area has its own character while maintaining a unified aesthetic. It’s not just about displaying furniture, it’s about showing how design breathes life into the way we live.

What are some of the key highlights of the space?

One of the most exciting highlights is our collaboration with Emanate Home, which brings an entirely new dimension to the space. Lighting, for me, is never just functional; it’s emotional. It has the power to completely transform how a space feels. The pieces we’ve curated with Emanate are sculptural, statement-making, and deeply atmospheric.

What has your journey in interiors and architecture taught you?

That good design takes time. It’s about observing, refining, and letting things evolve naturally. The best spaces come from patience.

Which global spaces have inspired you the most?

Aman Tokyo — its calm minimalism and strong identity. And the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao for its bold structure and scale. I’d love to reinterpret that sense of movement and drama in a home.

What design directions are people gravitating towards now?

There’s a clear shift toward earthy palettes, organic materials, and personal, intimate spaces. Homes are becoming more reflective of who we are.

What colours dominate your own home?

Muted tones like greys, creams, soft golds, and lots of warm wood. I’m always drawn to calm, understated palettes.
