Ultimate Edition is launching for Mac on July 17. CD Projekt Red has announced that the game will be available on Macs powered by Apple silicon through the Mac App Store, GOG.com, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The arrival on Mac comes close on the heels of the debut of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the Mac.
Playable on every Mac using M1 through M4, running macOS Sequoia 15.5, the game’s developer is making use of a number of Apple technologies, including MetalFX upscaling, Spatial Audio with head tracking when using AirPods, dynamic HDR optimised for Apple XDR displays, and support for the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad.
CD Projekt RED and Apple are even talking about “AMD FSR upscaling and frame generation optimised for Apple silicon”.
The game will come with the new “For this Mac” graphics presets, “individually optimised for every Apple Silicon Mac model”. More powerful Apple silicon chips will fully support features like path tracing, which is a film-like full ray tracing mode that improves lighting and occlusion in the game.
Though M1 chip first appeared in 2020 and M2 in 2022, Macs with Apple Silicon will support the game as long as they have 16GB or more of unified memory. So base 8GB M1 and M2 chips won’t be compatible.
Apple’s announcement makes it clear that this is not a simple port of the PC version. Instead, it makes full use of Apple’s own technologies. If you own an Apple XDR display, or any other HDR monitor, you’ll get HDR support in Cyberpunk 2077. You can experience Spatial Audio with head tracking when using AirPods.
An AI feature, MetalFX Frame Interpolation generates “an intermediate frame for every two input frames to achieve higher and more stable frame rates”.
MetalFX Upscaling pairs with the upcoming Frame Interpolation so the game can hit 120 frames per second at the game’s Ultra settings. These extra frames make gameplay feel super smooth and offer a high level of fidelity.
Cyberpunk 2077 debuts on Mac as CD Projekt Red releases the latest 2.3 patch for the game, which includes additional cars and new photo mode features.
