There is a bit of BenQ everywhere: in schools, offices, studios, and even conference rooms. The Taiwanese tech company’s presence in the display and projector categories is buoyed by its reputation for offering accurate pictures, often without breaking the bank. This is a special year as the brand approaches its upcoming silver anniversary. We caught up with Rajeev Singh, managing director of BenQ India, to discuss milestones and what lies ahead.

Beginning on a strong note

The year has started exceptionally well and is expected to be a significant milestone for BenQ, as the brand completes 25 years in India this December. The company aims to mark this anniversary by achieving record growth. The first quarter has begun strongly, with an expected growth of almost 100 per cent compared to the same quarter last year. While the entire year may not maintain that exact pace, the internal target is to grow by around 50 per cent. Overall, the business is firmly on the right track.

Looking back at 25 years

Over the past 25 years, particularly in India, the brand has evolved significantly. Previously perceived as a value brand, BenQ has transformed into a premium brand while maintaining its leadership in display technology. The company has consistently worked to provide solutions that have reshaped customer perception, especially over the last five years.

Key milestones include achieving the number one market share in projectors and launching the smart classroom initiative around 2010. BenQ has converted more than four lakh traditional classrooms into smart classrooms, which now represents over 50 per cent of the installed smart classroom base in India. In the home projector segment, BenQ continues to lead with over 50 per cent market share, delivering advanced home-theatre experiences. Regarding monitors, the company has repositioned itself as a premium, segment-focused brand. This includes launching products tailored for coders and programmers based on India-specific research — products that were later expanded globally.

Despite a largely stagnant monitor market, BenQ has maintained over 30 per cent compounded annual growth over the last five years.

A unique video conferencing system

The (InstaShow) VS25 addresses common challenges in conference rooms, specifically regarding the connection of multiple devices. Whether employees use laptops, phones, or tablets, connectivity often becomes complex and time-consuming. The VS25 system is a hardware-based solution that removes the need for software downloads and enables seamless connectivity. Users can connect their device via a button to instantly present or join meetings. It supports both wireless presentation and video conferencing integration, working with legacy and modern systems alike. The solution simplifies meeting setups, reduces dependency on IT support, and ensures faster, more efficient collaboration.

Importance of enterprise customers
The enterprise segment is a strategic focus area. Alongside the VS25, BenQ is introducing corporate interactive flat panels designed specifically for boardrooms and meeting spaces.

Unlike current panels adapted from classroom use, these are purpose-built for corporate environments, featuring integrated computing, cameras, touch functionality, and collaboration tools. The goal is to simplify conference room setups—which previously required multiple brands and components — and deliver an all-in-one, easy-to-use solution. This initiative is expected to strengthen BenQ’s presence in the corporate AV market.

Focus on the education sector

In 2025, government investment in education declined as funding was redirected, but momentum has now returned. BenQ is focusing on its ‘Make in India’ interactive flat panels to meet renewed government demand. The company has secured major projects, including the modernisation of classrooms in Delhi, where over 5,000 installations are expected by March. Additional projects are underway in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and other regions, while engagement with private education institutions continues steadily.

Using AI in meaningful ways

BenQ has integrated AI capabilities into its interactive flat panels, currently supported largely through cloud-based AI. The next phase involves launching panels with Edge AI, powered by a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that enables AI functions to run directly on the device. This ensures faster performance and usability even in areas with poor connectivity, while reducing the delays typically experienced with cloud-based processing. The focus is on delivering practical AI benefits, especially within classroom environments.

Action in the projector space

In the second half of the year, BenQ plans to launch a new top-of-the-line home projector featuring capabilities not currently available in its portfolio, including IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Vision. Upcoming models will also incorporate new DLP chipsets from Texas Instruments, offering significant performance improvements over existing projectors.
