Walk for a healthier heart and awareness

School students, senior citizens, sportspersons and children from NGOs matched steps with celebrities and cardiologists at AMRI Walkathon 2016, in association with The Telegraph, on September 28. About 400 people participated in the inaugural edition of the walk that Rupak Barua, group CEO of AMRI Hospitals, said would become an annual event around the World Heart Day on September 29. About 100 walkers were Rotarians, who co-organised the event with AMRI. “Walking is the cheapest and most basic form of exercise. Anyone can walk anywhere without need of any equipment or infrastructure. The benefits of walking are many: it helps you reduce weight, fights lifestyle diseases like diabetes and hypertension and automatically makes you healthier,” said cardiologist Susmit Bhattacharya who took part in the walk. Among the familiar faces in the walk from Deshapriya Park to Vivekananda Park via Rashbehari Avenue and Triangular Park were former cricketer Sambaran Banerjee, former footballer Gautam Sarkar, grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, singer Usha Uthup
and actress Payel Sarkar.
