A doctor was allegedly slapped by the husband of a patient after she died in hospital early on Thursday. The deceased person’s family has brought charges of medical negligence against the doctor and lodged a police complaint. Police said the matter will be referred to the state medical council.

Schoolbus hits bike

An empty schoolbus hit a motorcycle, which then hit a bicyclist on Diamond Harbour Road early on Thursday. The motorcyclist and the bicyclist were admitted to hospital. The bus driver has been arrested.

Geckos rescued

Eleven Tokay geckos, nocturnal lizards that live in southeast Asia, were rescued from three persons in New Town on Thursday. The reptile is protected under Schedule 4 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Gecko parts are used to make traditional medicines in China, Taiwan and other southeast Asian countries. The reptiles were taken to a rescue shelter in Salt Lake and will later be released into the wild, said a forest official.

Bike hits pedestrian

A 43-year-old pedestrian was injured after a motorcycle hit her near Ice Skating Rink around 9.40am on Thursday. Rima Kuan was admitted to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. Motorcyclist Somenath Barik was treated at hospital for injuries.

CMC budget

The Calcutta Municipal Corporation’s board will present the vote-on-account on Saturday. Since CMC elections are due later this year, a full budget cannot be presented, a civic official said. The budget will be presented after the elections.
