Kalaktang (Arunachal Pradesh), Jan. 29: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) today said the setting up of three border outposts in the state has completely eradicated the movement of militants along the Indo-Bhutan border.

SSB Tezpur frontier inspector-general Sarwan Kumar said cross-border subversive activities have been brought under complete control after the three outposts were set up. He also claimed that the entire border area has been completely sanitised.

"There is no more movement of rebels along the border areas. There may be sympathisers in some parts and some militants hiding in other parts. But the border is almost free from terrorist activities," he said.

There were earlier reports of cadres, particularly of the NDFB (Songbijit) faction, taking shelter in the dense forests bordering Bhutan.

Kumar said Bhutan was also setting up border outposts to be manned permanently to ensure the security of the people living along the border.

Arunachal Pradesh shares around a 700km border with Bhutan, of which 217km is manned by the SSB. Border meetings are held from time to time.

Kumar said after the three outposts were set up, about 1,300kg of contraband valued at around Rs 11 crore had been seized. The Tezpur frontier has recovered fake currencies with a face value of Rs 1.12 lakh. It has destroyed 31 acres of cannabis cultivation here and seized timber valued at Rs 6 crore.

The SSB has 67 battalions and in the next two years it plans to raise it to 73. A five-day Samajik Chetna Abhiyan, a social awareness programme, organised by the 30Bn of SSB Tezpur Frontier here, concluded yesterday.
