Hazaribagh, Feb. 22: The district police today arrested two police trainers of the Padma Training Centre, after an FIR was filed against them and four others, including centre SP Yogendra Mehra, for their alleged involvement in the mysterious death of Avinash Dubey, a jawan of the Ranchi district police.
The FIR was lodged on the basis of the statement of Dubey’s uncle Ram Vilas Dubey under Sections 302, 120(B) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against trainers Harikesh Mahant, Bindeshwar Prasad Singh, Subodh Chandra Thakur, Ali Imam, Devnish Kiro and assistant sub inspector Sawaiya. The police have arrested Harikesh and Bindeshwar and sent them to jail. Ram Vilas had alleged that Avinash was killed as the part of a “well-planned” conspiracy.
Avinash was drowned in a pond at the training centre where he, along with 200 other policemen, faced a punishment and were forced to take a dip. Protests swelled on the campus after Avinash’s death forcing director-general of police J.B. Mohapatra and inspector-general (training) Asha Sinha to rush to the spot.
Thereby, Mohapatra gave the policement a patient hearing and assured them of proper action in this regard. In fact, it is believed that it was him who instructed the Dubey family to lodge the FIR. He also assured jobs to his kin, besides compensation.
