Ranchi: Here's some good news for all aspiring models hoping to make it big in the world of fashion.

Jharkhand Silk Textile and Handicrafts Development Corporation, popularly known as Jharcraft, will provide a platform to models from across the state in the upcoming Kuchai Silk Expo next month.

The expo, an exhibition-cum-sale of silk products, will be held at hotel Chanakya BNR in Ranchi from August 7, also known as National Handloom Day, to August 13.

Jharcraft has tied up with an FM channel to launch a Face of Jharcraft contest.

On the first day of the silk expo a fashion show will be held at the venue where two best models, a man and a woman, will be selected from the group of shortlisted candidates.

"Two models, a man and a woman, will finally be selected. They will be the face of Jharcraft for the next six months and get to feature in all our advertisements," said Jharcraft managing director Manjunath Bhajantri, adding they would also win a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.

Jharcraft MD further said the only essential criterion was that all candidates needed to upload their photographs on Facebook wearing handloom or khadi outfits of any brand using the hashtag #JharcraftModelHunt.

"The purpose of the contest is to promote handloom products, which are not only comfortable and fashionable, but also upholds the Indian culture. Popularity of handloom products will further help in generating more jobs for weavers. Till now we have received an overwhelming response," added Bhajantri.

Though Jharcraft officials had initially planned to shortlist 15 male and as many female models for the ramp walk, the number might be reduced due to time and space constraints. "The event will be judged by experts in the field of fashion," said Bhajantri.

Kuchai Silk Expo will have 40 stalls showcasing silk products of acclaimed weavers' organisations from across the country, "Visitors can also buy any desired product, all available at nominal rates," he added.
