Dhanbad: Coal town-based IIT(ISM) is gearing up to extend all possible administrative support to Jharkhand's lone state-run institution BIT-Sindri.

Various staff and faculty members of BIT-Sindri will be trained by IIT(ISM) experts under the World Bank sponsored ambitious Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) from July 21 on the Sindri campus.

IIT(ISM) is the parent institution of BIT-Sindri under the TEQIP programme. An MoU was also signed between the institutions on July 26 last year to facilitate exchange of faculty members, sharing resources including laboratories and libraries, holding joint conferences and seminars and training faculty members.

IIT (ISM) will also provide all necessary support to develop the recently-launched entrepreneurship cell of BIT-Sindri.

Taking to The Telegraph on Friday, IIT(ISM) mining engineering professor Dhiraj Kumar, who is also the coordinator of TEQIP programme, said, "The month-long training for BIT-Sindri teachers, staff and officers is scheduled to begin on July 21 during which our experts will visit BIT-Sindri to impart training on areas like administrative reforms, finance, academics reforms and library automation and store and purchase management."

According to Kumar, the training will ultimately aid in gaining the autonomy status of BIT-Sindri. "The training will be held for three to four days every week. IIT (ISM) will also help in strengthening the curriculum of BIT-Sindri by including the latest topics relevant to the industry," added Kumar, adding faculty members of IIT(ISM) would attend a meeting at BIT-Sindri on July 2 to discuss development of new courses.

"Besides taking the help of IIT(ISM) to train our faculty members we also plan to hold a series of joint seminars and workshops in future," said BIT-Sindri director Dharmendra Kumar Singh.
