Zeeshan among three nominees

New Delhi: Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali is among three, who have been recommended for the Dhyanchand Award for lifetime contribution to sport this year.

Sources in the sports ministry said that the selection committee has also recommended former diver K. P. Thakkar (1951 Asian Games medallist) and 1980 Moscow Olympic gold medallist in Hokcey, Gurmail Singh, for the award.

Meanwhile, the selection committee for the Dronacharya Award, headed by former hockey captain Ajitpal Singh, met here on Monday and recommended the names of five coaches. The recommendations are N. Lingappa (athletics), G. Manoharan (boxing), Gurcharan Singh Gogi (judo) Jose Jacob (rowing) and Mahaveer Prasad (Greco Roman wrestling).

Apart from Prasad, who has been recommended on the basis of current performance, the others are being considered for the ‘lifetime achievement’ category.
