Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting were beaten by Peerless SC 0-1 in a Calcutta Football League Premier Division A match at home on Thursday. Anthony Wolfe nette the winner for Peerless.

Wolfe scored in the 20th minute, and that was enough to hand Mohammedan Sporting their second defeat of the league. Hira Mondal of Peerless, who had an outstanding game, named Man of the Match.

The match was delayed by 37 minutes owing to incessant rain and waterlogged pitch.

The hosts went for the kill from the very first minute of the game. Bazie Armand and Princewill Emeka missed two easy chances within first 10 minutes.

Peerless took the lead much against the run of the play. A nice build-up saw Syed Rahim Nabi sending a cross to Dipankar Das. Das side-volleyed the cross and Wolfe nodded it home.

After the goal, Peerless took control the game. Ansumana Kromah kept pressure on Mohammedan Sporting defence.
In the second half, Mohammedan SC looked for the equaliser but failed to convert chances.

Mohammedan Sporting technical director Raghu Nandi brought in new signing Philip Adjah in place of Bazie in the 64th minute but he looked unfit and was not up to the mark.

As another loss looked imminent, Mohammedan Sporting supporters started throwing bottles into the ground. That led to a stoppage of three minutes.

Kromah got an easy chance to increase the margin but Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper Arup Debnath made a good save.

Nandi sounded unhappy after the match. “I don’t want to blame any particular player, we didn’t play well and also missed few opportunities,” Nandi said.

“I don’t want to think about the past we need to look forward and try to win remaining matches,” he added.

Peerless coach Biswajit Bhattacharya said: “This is important win for us, but we have also lost some important points. We need to do well in the remaining matches,” Bhattacharya said.
