Jamshedpur: Varun Aaron hopes to salvage some pride for Team India after their Test debacle.

“I am known as a cutter of the ball. However, of late, I have also developed a good outswinger,” the pacer told The Telegraph on Monday.

The 21-year-old clocked an amazing 153.5 kmph — the fastest ball ever bowled by an Indian — against Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final in March this year.

In England, Varun plans to break his own record. “Speed comes to me naturally. I don’t prepare to bowl sizzlers. I must have bent my back a little extra to generate that kind of speed against Gujarat,” he said.

The Jamshedpur boy, who has recently shifted to Pune, said he derived confidence from both family and coaches. “Their support and advice keep me in good stead. That is very important for any young cricketer like me. I am indebted to my coaches — Dennis Lillee and T.A. Sekar — who have taught me the tricks of seam bowling at the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai,” he said.

The speedster, who turned out for Delhi DareDevils in the IPL 4, clarified that he would continue to play for Jharkhand.

“It is Jamshedpur where I picked up the nuances of fine cricket. I am grateful to the Jharkhand State Cricket Association for supporting me in difficult times,” he said.
