New Delhi: Seven Indian athletes made it to the top 50 of the latest IAAF individual rankings list with national champion woman discus thrower Krishna Poonia being the best placed at 15th spot. Poonia has teammate Harwant Kaur at 37th, an Athletics Federation of India release stated. Among men, Beijing Olympian discus thrower Vikas Gowda was ranked 23rd while javelin thrower Anil Kumar Singh was at 36th place.

New Delhi: India’s challenge in the ITTF World Junior Table Tennis Championship ended with both Olympian Neha Aggarwal and Soumi Mondal bowing out from the girls’ singles category in Madrid Friday. The Indian duo’s journey in the girls’ doubles had already ended after they went down to the Czech pair Aneta Kucerova and Hana Matelova 2-3 Thursday.

Karachi: Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf has been issued the visa by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad that will enable him to officiate in the second Test between England and India at Mohali from December 19. Rauf was to have supervised both the Tests between England and India but with the BCCI shifting the venues to Chennai and Mohali, he could not travel since he did not have travel documents for the new centres.

Melbourne: Pakistan left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir is being courted by South Australian side Redbacks for their domestic Twenty20 competition. Tanvir is likely to replace Pakistan middle-order batsman Younis Khan in the competition scheduled to start on December 26, provided the series between India and Pakistan falls through.
