Calcutta: With a new logo, jersey, slogan and coach, there seems to be quite a buzz around the Kolkata Knight Riders, before even a ball is bowled in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League.
The players’ aren’t lacking in commitment, too, as Laxmi Ratan Shukla, decided to attend the optional practice session, at Eden Gardens, on Monday, despite returning from a disappointing Syed Mushtaq Ali campaign.
“Today’s practice was optional but I came to meet the new coach,” Laxmi said. After Dav Whatmore decided to coach the Pakistan national side, KKR roped in another Australian in Trevor Bayliss.
“Trevor is very open-minded… He spoke openly to all the players on various aspects of their game,” said the all-rounder.
Laxmi also seemed enthusiastic on the appointment of Dr Rudi Webster as the team’s mental skills coach. “We’ve not interacted with Rudi as yet, but I can’t wait to have a session with him. An interaction with him will help in giving us the right mentality before a match.
“It’s simple… We just have to make the most of our opportunities.”
Meanwhile, KKR captain Gautam Gambhir arrived in the city, late on Monday, and is expected to inspect the pitches that are being prepared for the team’s home matches, on Tuesday.
